Why Charcoal is good for your skin
Activated charcoal has amazing beneficial properties for our skin.
It has the ability to draw out toxins, impurities and absorb excess oil.
With regular use you could be looking at refined smoother skin, fewer blemishes and a reduction in pore size making it an essential product to add to your skincare list if you suffer from blackheads.
What are blackheads?
When our pores becomes clogged up with dead skin cells, bacteria and oil we get what’s called a comedone.
If it is covered by a thin layer of skin it is called a closed comedone or as we more commonly know it a white head.
When there is no protective covering of skin, the contents becomes exposed to the air, oxidises and discolours turning it to a blackhead, or open comedone.
As blackheads are open comedones you should be able to extract the contents fully but it’s best if you can open the pores as fully as possible before applying your mask.
You can do this by applying a heated towel to your face for a few minutes, this will allow the pores to gently open and your ready to go!

Blackheads are so stubborn!! I am glad to be past all of that. I do like the idea of
using a mask for better skin though. I have some activated charcoal powder. I
wonder if that would make a good mask if I just added something to it. What do you
think I could add to it to make it a paste? I may be better off just making the purchase.
Sometimes charcoal masks can be a bit harsh on your skin and strip your hydro lipid barrier if they don’t have enough protective ingredients in there. I would be inclined to stick to the recommendations and you know your skin is in safe hands. A good idea as with some face mask you absolutely can make your own but with activated charcoal and peel off masks it’s best to not experiment.
Hope this helps.
